325: School Visit by award winning author Nicky Singer.

NickySingerPicITEM: Nicky is offering a three session day visit to your school to include a choice of book talks and/or workshops:

1. One hour book talks for any year group 6-11 (with a preference for Year 7-8). Feather Boy talk to include clips from the BBC film. Knight Crew talk (Year 9 and above) to include clips from the opera with its chorus of sixty 16-19 year olds. Classes or whole year groups.

2. One and a half hour Creative Writing Workshop (20 participants max). Up to 6th Form.

3. Drama/theatre workshop. Focus on adapting work for stage. Improvisation in consultation with school drama staff.

Nicky lives in Brighton and will pay her own way to any school within 30 minutes drive/train ride. Otherwise travel and accommodation to be covered by school concerned. Date by mutual agreement.

BIO: Nicky’s book Feather Boy won the Blue Peter Book of the Year Award and was later filmed by the BBC, winning a BAFTA for Best Children’s Drama. In 2010 she adapted her novel Knight Crew (a re-telling of the King Arthur legend) for an opera premiered at Glyndebourne and last year her drama Island played at the National Theatre. Her most recent novel (about songs and souls and things which live in bottles) is The Flask. The Guardian called it ‘a nourishing and uplifting story, with big themes and a big heart’.
